Professor John Crown

Professor John Crown is a Consultant medical oncologist with St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin and was previously an elected independent Senator in the Irish Senate (Seanad Éireann). Prof. Crown received his medical training at University College Dublin. He then went on to complete his fellowship training in oncology at Mount Sinai Medical Centre and in haematology/oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre. He served as Assistant Professor at Memorial Sloan Kettering before joining St. Vincent's University Hospital in 1993. He is the founding member of Cancer Trials Ireland (formerly the All Ireland Cooperative Oncology Research Group [ICORG]) which is the clinical trial sponsor in Ireland, of which 95% of Irish oncologists are members. Prof. Crown was awarded the Thomas Baldwin Chair in Translational Cancer Research at DCU in 2003, the Newman Clinical Research Professorship in UCD in 2004, and the Health Research Board Clinician Scientist Award in 2007. He collaborates with Prof. Gallagher in the BREAST-PREDICT and the MCTI projects.
