Prof William Watson, BSc PhD is the Professor of Cancer Biology in the UCD School of Medicine, Head of Pathology, the lead Principal Investigator of the Prostate Cancer Research Consortium and Director of the Biomedical, Health and Life Science BSc honours degree. He received his PhD in Biochemistry from the Department of Biochemistry, University College Cork and undertook his post-doctoral research in University of Toronto and the Toronto General Hospital in Canada before returning in 1997 to the Department of Surgery, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, UCD. Professor Watson utilises the latest translational technologies to study cellular and molecular pathways of the initiation and progression of prostate cancer in order to identify diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic sites for manipulation. He works closely with clinicians to make sure that his research benefits patients. He is widely published in the Urology and Oncology space, having published over 223 articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the European Urology, Kidney International, Nature Communications, and Nature Reviews Urology.
